ROAD SALT
Road salt (halite) is a natural mineral form of salt (sodium chloride). Kitchen salt is purified, while road salt contains mineral impurities, which is why it is usually brown or gray.
Road salt achieves its effect by lowering the freezing point of water through a process called freezing point depression. In a small amount of water, in short, salt passes into its ionic components. Therefore, in order to meet the efficiency of road salt, there must be at least some liquid water on the roads. This is one of the reasons why road salt does not work in extremely cold weather when the water is completely frozen.
Road salt is not intended for human or animal consumption.
